A Complete Guide to Touchless Faucet and
Soap Dispenser Sets in Modern Bathrooms
Everything you need to know about hands-free hygiene, sensor technology, premium finishes, and commercial-grade reliability. Explore the Fontana SquareArc Duo collection — 14 models designed for modern bathrooms.
How Do Touchless Faucet and Soap Dispenser Systems Work?
Most touchless systems use infrared (IR) sensors that emit light beams. When hands enter the detection zone, the light reflects back to the sensor, triggering a solenoid valve to open — releasing water or dispensing soap. Advanced models include:
- Active IR sensors: Continuous signal emission for instant response
- Passive IR sensors: Detect body heat, more energy-efficient
- Hybrid systems: Combine both for accuracy in high-traffic areas
Key Benefits of Touchless Systems (With Real Data)
- Water savings: Reduces consumption by 35–40% compared to manual faucets (source: EPA WaterSense)
- Hygiene improvement: Eliminates up to 99% of cross-contamination risks from surface touching
- Operational efficiency: 500,000+ cycle rating means 5–7 years of maintenance-free operation in commercial settings
Common Problems & Limitations of Touchless Systems
Understanding these challenges helps set realistic expectations and plan maintenance:
- False activation: Reflective surfaces or direct sunlight can trigger sensors unintentionally
- Sensor delay: Budget systems may have 0.5–1 second lag; premium models (like Fontana) react within 0.2 seconds
- Battery dependency: Battery-powered units need replacement every 1–2 years; hardwired units avoid this
- Water pressure sensitivity: Low pressure (below 20 PSI) may affect sensor performance
- Cleaning requirements: Mineral buildup on sensor windows can reduce accuracy

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about touchless faucet and soap dispenser sets
🔹 What is a touchless faucet and soap dispenser set?▼
A touchless faucet and soap dispenser set combines an automatic sensor-activated faucet with a matching hands-free soap dispenser. Both units use infrared sensors to detect motion, allowing users to activate water flow and soap dispensing without touching any surface — improving hygiene, reducing cross-contamination, and saving water. The Fontana SquareArc Duo series offers these sets in 14 premium finishes.
🔹 Are touchless faucets reliable for commercial bathrooms?▼
Yes, high-quality touchless faucets like the Fontana SquareArc Duo series are engineered specifically for commercial environments. They feature solid brass construction, durable sensors rated for over 500,000 cycles, vandal-resistant design, and water flow rates optimized for public restrooms (0.35–0.5 GPM). Many models also include manual override options and battery backup for uninterrupted operation.
🔹 What finishes are available in the SquareArc Duo collection?▼
The Fontana SquareArc Duo collection offers 14 designer finishes including: Lava Stone Black & Brushed Gold, Volcanic Ash Grey, Concrete Mist Light Grey, Glossy Black with Polished Rose Gold, Basalt Textured Dark Grey, Matte White & Champagne, Soft Matte Black Elite, Textured Ink Blue & Brass, Polished Chrome & Lava Texture, Granite Fog Speckled Grey, Titanium Dark Grey Texture, and more. Each finish is resistant to corrosion, fingerprints, and daily wear.
🔹 How do I install a deck-mounted touchless faucet set?▼
All Fontana SquareArc Duo models are deck-mounted, meaning they install directly through holes in the sink or countertop. Each set includes the faucet, soap dispenser, mounting hardware, sensor control box, and power supply (batteries or AC adapter). Installation typically requires standard plumbing connections (1/2″ NPT) and takes 30–60 minutes. Professional installation is recommended for commercial projects.
🔹 Do touchless faucets save water and energy?▼
Yes, touchless faucets significantly reduce water waste because they only activate when hands are detected and automatically shut off after a few seconds. The SquareArc Duo models operate at 0.35–0.5 gallons per minute (GPM), compared to standard faucets that use 1.5–2.2 GPM. This can reduce water consumption by up to 70% in commercial restrooms, leading to lower utility bills and LEED certification points.
🔹 How do I maintain and clean touchless faucets?▼
Maintenance is minimal. Clean the sensor window and faucet surface weekly with a soft cloth and mild soap — avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the finish. The soap dispenser should be refilled with standard liquid soap (pH-neutral recommended). Batteries (if used) typically last 1–2 years. For commercial settings, periodic sensor calibration ensures optimal performance.
